Podcasters behind Stuff You Should Know announce Vancouver live show Events

But lots of tourist guides recommend you visit Chinatown for that purpose, which I don’t think is the best suggestion. Instead, if it’s an incredible view you’re after, the one from the Cypress Mountain Highview Lookout (in neighbouring West Vancouver) is my favourite in the city. I’ve done Fly Over Canada several times thanks to hook-ups from friends of mine, and while it’s pretty fun for a quick thing to do in Downtown Vancouver, I find it very overpriced ($36 per adult!!) for a short 12 minute attraction.

  • It’s only 15 minutes’ driving away from downtown Vancouver, where you can also combine with a family-friendly hike under the towering, evergreen trees to clean out your lungs.
  • Immerse yourself in pop culture, comics, and creativity at Western Canada’s biggest fan experience.
  • This tribal figure is included in the studio’s Granville Island collection of ceramic works.
  • This isn’t bucket list travel, it’s meaningful, practical, and grounded in real experience.
  • The museum’s location in the historic Gastown area means you can easily combine your visit with exploring the neighborhood, though the museum’s somber content provides stark contrast to Gastown’s tourist atmosphere.

I’m gonna let you in on a local secret right now… every Vancouverite is straight-up obsessed with food. That’s because I feel like some of the nicest parts of the city (namely the seawall paths) are missed by these buses, so it’d be a huge wasted opportunity to miss them. Instead, a 2 minute walk from the Vancouver Lookout, you’ll find the SeaBus terminal. Kerrisdale is a super adorable neighbourhood filled with fun boutiques and places to eat, only a 20 minute commute from downtown Vancouver. One great place to start is the Aberdeen Centre food court on the top floor.

Make sure to look in even the most unlikely of places, as you never know what you’ll find. Vancouver is known as the “sushi capital of North America” and famous California Sushi Roll ( crab, cucumber, avocado). Invented in 1971,  by Hidekazu Tojo– a Canadian- opened his own restaurant in the city Tojos. You’ll find sushi rolls named after the city– from “B.C roll” (an homage to Vancouver’s abundance of wild salmon)  to “Victoria”. As a Pacific Northwest coastal city, Vancouver is proud of its sustainable and fresh catch, so seafood is fresh here.

Final Tips & Words from a Local

The menu features chicken, lamb, beef, and vegetarian options, as well as traditional Afghanistan dishes such as kabuli palaw and dahl chalaw. This funky fun joint is a hip place to grab a bite, but it’s no passing trend. The Eatery has been operating out of the Kitsilano area for over 30 years and they aren’t going anywhere any time soon. Harsh Gujral is a Dabangg guy from Kanpur who cracks jokes on his life experiences. With a strong personality he also has strong comedy sets to tickle your funny bones. It takes exemplary courage to sit in the first two rows of a Harsh Gujral show because he will get you with his highly witty yet charming style.

This is a great place to explore Vancouver’s foodie-scene, whether you take a tour or stroll on your own. Excellent signage prevents navigation confusion, and frequent crossings of major streets include traffic signals timed for cyclists. The path’s design separated from cars makes it feel safe for families with children, though you’ll share the path with pedestrians during busy periods. What elevates this beyond mere transportation infrastructure is the public art, community gardens, playgrounds, and scenic viewpoints integrated along the route, creating destination experiences rather than just a commuting corridor. The visible storage galleries display thousands of objects from cultures worldwide, allowing visitors to see how museums organize and care for collections. The museum actively collaborates with Indigenous communities, hosting ceremonies and cultural events that bring the objects to life as living cultural heritage rather than static artifacts.

Visit weekday mornings or early afternoons to avoid peak crowds, or embrace the buzzing weekend atmosphere when the mall fills with families and groups of teenagers. The church is fully accessible and welcomes visitors of all faiths or none, offering free admission for self-guided exploration or docent-led tours that reveal architectural and historical details. The labyrinth in the garden provides a meditative walking path, and the cathedral’s progressive stance on social issues reflects Vancouver’s inclusive values.

SUN YAT SEN PARK

Timing your visit to match seasonal highlights can transform good trips into memorable ones. This immersive experience brings you on a flying ride that suspends you over a 20m spherical screen, making it feel like you’re journeying through all the incredible places you see before you, complete with scents and wind effects. If you’ve ever done “Soaring Over California” at Disneyland or Disney World, it’s just like that, but for Canada (and sometimes other destinations).

The truth is it’s as big as Belgium and takes at least four hours to get to from Vancouver. If you can find someone with a high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicle to get you there, it’s one of the fastest ways to get to the B.C. Come in August or September and you’ll be rewarded with wildflowers galore as you explore the waterfalls, creeks, and mountains in this alpine playground. There are plenty of hip and/or fancy places that serve "better" food than the following places, but you’ll find similar restaurants in any American city.
